POEM - NEWSFLASH
How small the world becomes
For those who allow themselves
To be engulfed in its swathes of darkness
Rather than using them as wings
To soar across the infinite expanse
Of shining golden wonder that unfolds
When one looks without from within
With eyes that want to see the magic
And heart that beats to the tune of the soul.
What cage is this that humans
Willingly trap themselves in
Hunting each other, scaring themselves
Locked inside their inflexible imagination
Fed on scraps of doctrine and misinformation
Walls made of mirrors, echoing chambers,
Laughing fearfully at the freakshow
Without fully understanding why
Or how to set themselves free.
Meanwhile the soft morning sun
Filters through the misty trees
Sparking the still dew drenched leaves
In an iridescent flash, glints of rainbow
Shaking from a bird’s tail as it lifts off.
Peace reigns supreme, almighty,
When you switch channels to gaze
Awe-struck at the sheer majesty
Of all that we are.
