POEM - WHOLE

To say that someone is your other half
Is to misunderstand love
For to love someone completely
Requires you to be whole yourself.
For love to unfold and hold another
Requires you to let go of their hand
And wrap your arms around
Your own vulnerability, to seek
Your own solace, find
Your own strength, untie
The obligations that bind
One to another and keep us weak,
Half of what we could become
If we loved ourselves wholly,
Free then to love another fully,
To let them be themselves completely
Free and complete
In the knowledge that the whole
Is greater than the sum
Of the parts, a love more
Powerful than the sun.
